Whether you're looking for a charting platform for market analysis, a solid full-featured trading platform or an advanced professional trading platform, MotiveWave has what you need.
30+ Supported Brokers and Data Feed Providers
MotiveWave currently supports 30+ brokers and data feeds, as well as any broker who connects through CQG, Rithmic, and GAIN.
MotiveWave continues to add brokers and data service providers.
Broker and Data Feed Connections per Workspace
One Broker or Data Feed per Workspace
MotiveWave allows you to create unlimited Workspaces, which are the connection to a broker or data service provider. Each Workspace is a separate instance of MotiveWave with its own local database.
In the Community, Standard, Order Flow, and Elliott Wave Lite Editions, you can only have one connection per Workspace.
If you would like to have several broker or data feed connections, you would create a separate Workspace for each one.
Multiple Brokers/Data Feeds per Workspace
In the Professional and Ultimate Editions, you can add multiple broker and data feed connections within the same Workspace.
You can still create separate Workspaces for each broker or data feed connection, if that is your preference.
Cloud Workspaces
Cloud workspaces are hosted on MotiveWave's server and can be accessed from any computer using the same license key.
Cloud workspaces hold all of their data in the MotiveWave cloud (including settings, instruments analysis etc) but also hold a local copy so that the workspace can be opened in "offline" mode.
Any changes that are made to the workspace in "offline" mode will be synchronized with the cloud workspace the next time you open the workspace in "online" mode.
Chart Tools
MotiveWave comes with a comprehensive set of Chart Tools, which include:
General Analysis Components like Trend Line (and extended), Horizontal Line (and extended), Vertical Line (and extended), Price Labels, Time Labels, Fork, Modified Schiff Fork, Channel (and extended), Range, Time and Price Range, Arrows, Support and Resistance Areas, Support and Resistance Zones, P&L Calculator/PL Targets, Cycle, Time Cycle, Wedges, Angles, Curves, Regression Tools, Circles (Radius, Diameter), Triangle, Quad Polygon, Sine Wave, Quadrant Lines, Tirone Levels, Speed Lines, Cross Line

Built-In Studies/Indicators
MotiveWave currently has 300+ built-in studies and indicators, with more always being added.
Includes Multiple Time Frame Studies, Multiple Instrument Studies (Instrument Overlay/Graph, Spread, Ratio), and ability to Choose a Different Instrument for a Study Graph
You can see the full list of studies/indicators in the software by going to Study > All Studies (from the top menu bar)

Indicator On Indicator
Use one indicator as an input for another. For example, apply a Moving Average to a Stochastic Indicator, or even to another Moving Average.
For the Community, Standard, Order Flow, and Elliott Wave Lite Editions, (because they don't have any strategy backtesting functionality), you only have the ability to test custom studies/indicators. You can still code strategies within the SDK, but there would be no way for you to test them in the Standard, Trade, or Elliott Wave Lite Editions.
For the Professional and Ultimate Editions, you have the ability to test your Java SDK-built custom studies/indicators AND strategies.
Visit our User Forum to get coding tips and to discuss coding your study with other MotiveWave users.
If you'd like a custom indicator created for you, our Support Team can put you touch with a recommended developer who can give you a quote.
Chart Templates and Chart Linking
Chart Templates
For convenience, studies can be organized into templates that contain one or more studies with specific settings. A template can then be applied to another chart, or be set as a default template to be automatically be applied each time you open a chart.
Chart Linking
Chart linking (see video) is a powerful feature that enables you to apply an action to a set of charts (instead of a single chart at a time).
There are three modes for linking charts:
Instrument (Symbol) - In this mode, you can have a group of charts set with different bar sizes and quickly change the symbol simultaneously on all charts while your set bar sizes do not change.
Time (Bar Size) - In this mode, you can have a group of charts set with different symbols, but on one time frame/bar size, and then quickly flip through different bar sizes simultaneously on all charts while your set of symbols remain unchanged.
None (Replay Mode) - This mode is for linking charts together for use in replay mode (linked charts are part of a replay group)
19 Standard Chart Bar Types
All MotiveWave current listed editions come with a base set of 19 Chart Bar Types, which are:
OHLC bars, HLC bars
Candlesticks, Trend Candlesticks, 3D Candlesticks, Hollow Candlesticks, Flat Candlesticks
Data can be imported into MotiveWave in CSV, ASCII, or Metastock Database formats.
You can set the import to monitor the input file for changes. If this option is selected, MotiveWave will monitor the timestamp on the input file to see if it changes in the future. If it does change, the new data will be automatically loaded into MotiveWave when a chart is loaded.
Note: Data Export is not available in the Community edition.
Trade Simulation
Use the built-in simulated account to practice your trades with live data.
Practice your trading and test out new trading ideas in MotiveWave's Replay Mode.
See your simulated positions, orders, and trade history.
Data Import/Export
Data can be imported into or exported from MotiveWave in CSV, ASCII, or Metastock Database formats.
For Data Import, you can set the import to monitor the input file for changes. If this option is selected, MotiveWave will monitor the timestamp on the input file to see if it changes in the future. If it does change, the new data will be automatically loaded into MotiveWave when a chart is loaded.
Repository
The Repository feature (see video) allows you to save/store specific Workspaces in a local database or in a file system, which can be very useful if you want to synchronize this data (using Google Drive or Drop Box) with other computers or use as an alternative way to create backups.
Console Pages
The MotiveWave Console is organized into different 'Pages' to make it easy to access information in MotiveWave.
The Pages are located along the bottom of the Console window. Simply click on the page tab at the bottom of the console window to go to that Page. You can create as many Pages as you like.
Default Pages within MotiveWave upon startup are:
Home - The home page contains a sample layout that has a single chart area and two spots at the bottom for watch lists.
Charts - Sample layout of 6 charts
Account - Layout containing information about your account, orders, positions and historical trades.
Options - Sample layout containing Option Chains. Note: this page is only available on brokers that support options trading (available in the Professional and Ultimate Editions only).
Scan - Layout for using the scanning functionality within MotiveWave (available in Professional and Ultimate Editions only).
Optimize - Contains a strategy optimizer panel for Back Testing, Optimization and Walk Forward testing of automated strategies (available in Professional and Ultimate Editions only).
News - If supported by your Broker/Data service, you may see a page for news.
Timeframe Visibility Options
Timeframe visibility is a very useful feature in MotiveWave that enables you to specify the bar sizes where a component is visible, which means it's hidden for all other bar sizes. For example, show a Trend Line only on bar sizes smaller than or equal to 1 hour and a Comment only on the current bar size of 1 day.
This can be very useful to avoid clutter when switching to different bar sizes on a chart.
Alerts
Simple Price Alerts
Simple Price Alerts are included in all of the current MotiveWave editions.
A Price Alert (an alert for when a price for a particular instrument has been reached), does not require a chart in order to execute. It will be triggered by the bid/ask or last price of an instrument. Price Alerts can be created directly from the Alerts panel or from the Price Axis of a chart.
Advanced Alerts
Advanced Alerts are available in the Professional and Ultimate Editions only.
Advanced Alerts include:
Study Alerts - Alerts can be based on values that are generated as part of a study using one of the following comparisons:
Absolute Comparison - A study value is compared to a specific value (ie -0.1174).
Relative Comparison - A study value is compared against another study value (in the same plot), for example, where the value of one study KAMA(C,20) crosses the value of another study (Tenkan-Sen(9))
Component Alerts - Some components can be used to generate alerts. For example, you could create an alert for when a moving average crosses a trend line.
Replay Mode (Basic)
Replay Mode enables you to go back in time and replay market data. This can be very useful to practice your trading or to test your custom studies and/or strategies.
In MotiveWave Replay Mode (Basic), you can:
Pick a specific date and time to start from
Choose from bar data or minute data (if available).
Use the built-in simulated Replay Mode account to practice trades.
Link charts for use in Replay Mode to have multiple charts step forward together in Replay Mode

It includes:
Configurable Trade Panel - Modify the layout of the Trade Panel to rearrange existing sections and create your own sections, add widgets/controls and customizable order buttons within the Trade Panel.
Custom Order Shortcuts - A custom order can be defined and assigned a keyboard shortcut
Custom Columns in Watch List/Quote Sheets - These columns can be defined and will display a value that is generated by a built-in or custom study (example: RSI>80, or MACD 15 Min). Formatting may also be applied to the column cells to make it easier to visualize trading opportunities.
Custom Tools - based on existing mouse tools, a custom tool allows you to configure the default properties of the component that is drawn using the tool. For example, you could create a custom trend line tool that draws a blue dashed line (instead of the default black solid line). You can add these custom tools to the tool bars in MotiveWave for quick access.
Tool Groups - Tool Groups allow you to create a custom drop down menu in a tool bar for organizing or grouping existing and custom tools. This can help to optimize the available space on the tool bar(s).
Custom Instruments - MotiveWave allows you to create custom instruments that are based on 2 or more existing instruments. There are 3 types of custom instruments:
Spread - Displays the difference between two instruments
Ratio - Displays the ratio by dividing the price of one instrument by another
Index - Allows you to combine the prices of 2 or more instruments into an index
Strategy Backtesting
Strategy Backtesting is available in the Professional and Ultimate Editions only.
Strategy Backtesting includes:
Strategy Execution - MotiveWave supports two modes for strategy execution:
Automatic - Once the user activates the strategy, it will automatically buy and sell based on the internal logic.
Manual - In this mode, the user tells the strategy when it is OK to enter.
30+ Built-In Strategies including the Trade Manager strategy
Strategy Backtesting - MotiveWave has highly advanced strategy back testing options through our Strategy Optimizer (found on the Optimize Page at the bottom of the Console)
Strategy Optimization - MotiveWave currently supports two types of optimization algorithms:
Exhaustive - this algorithm will evaluate all possible combinations of the strategy settings to find the optimal result. This is a good option if the number of combinations is relatively low.
Genetic - employs a natural selection approach to find an optimal combination without having to evaluate all possible combinations of the strategy settings.
Walk Forward Testing - Sometimes knowing the optimal settings for a specific range of data is not enough. Just because a strategy performed well for a specific bar size and time frame does not guarantee that it will continue to perform well in the future. Walk forward testing helps to lessen this problem by stepping forward in time after every iteration of a time frame.
Backtesting Analysis and Reporting - MotiveWave provides several strategy analysis metrics for reviewing the results of your strategy. These include:
Metrics tab: Displays a summary of the selected executed strategy
Chart tab: Displays a visual representation of the executed trades that occurred for the selected executed strategy.
Reports tab: Reports available include Net Profit, Cumulative Profit, Trades Profit/Loss, Entry Efficiency, Exit Efficiency, Efficency
Periods tab: Groups trades together based on the selected period (hourly, daily weekly etc). Each row in the table displays summary information.
Trades tab: Shows all of the trades that occurred. A trade includes the entry into the trade as well as the exit out of the trade. This allows you to see the profit/loss that occurred with each trade.
Executions tab: Displays all of the filled orders.
Quote Sheets
Quote Sheets are available in the Professional and Ultimate Editions only.
A Quote Sheet is a special version of a Watch List that organizes instruments into groups created by you. Examples could be: Tech Sector, Energy, Industrials, or Metals, Grains, Softs.
Desktops
The Desktops feature is available in the Professional and Ultimate Editions only.
Desktops provide a convenient way to organize or group charts and other panels together in one window (instead of multiple popped out separate windows).
A Desktop is essentially another Console window and uses the same docking framework to lay out pages.
Gauges Panel
Gauges Panels are available in the Professional and Ultimate Editions only.
Gauges are used to visually display symbol/instrument statistics (based on Ticks, Price, Volume, Bid Volume, Ask Volume, Delta Volume, Delta Spread, Delta DOM) or study values in a panel in the Console (or in a Desktop).
The Gauges Panels are similar to the Speed Gauges study, but are displayed in a separate panel, not displayed on a chart. You can have more gauges in a panel than you can on a chart, and these gauges allow built-in or custom study values.
Option Chains
Option Chains are available in the Professional and Ultimate Editions only.
Groups of options (Stock and Future Options) can be managed from the Option Chain panel in the Console. If your broker supports options, you will see an "Options" page at the bottom of the Console window.
An option chain panel enables you to see the available options organized by strike price for a given expiry date.
Buy and sell orders can be placed directly from the option table by clicking on the Buy/Sell buttons that are next to each Put/Call pair. Current positions and profit/loss are also visible on the table for each option.

Analysis Packs
Analysis Packs are available in the Elliott Wave Lite, Professional, and Ultimate Editions only.

The Hurst Cycles Study is used to predict future market peaks or troughs.
The Elliott Wave Tools Pack is available in the Elliott Wave Lite and Ultimate Editions only.
MotiveWave has the most advanced Elliott Wave Software and Elliott Wave Tools available, and saves you an amazing amount of time in your Elliott Wave Analysis:
All Elliott Wave Patterns and Degrees are supported. MotiveWave allows you to easily compose or decompose wave formations to multiple levels and perform time and ratio analysis on the waves to forecast future price direction and buy / sell points.
All Elliott Wave Rules and Guidelines are enforced, which means you will see a warning if you manually place a pattern in a way that breaks a rule. This shortens your learning curve with Elliott Wave significantly and allows you to be more confident in your wave counts.
Elliott Wave labels are always automatically added for you, significantly cutting down your analysis time.
The Elliott Wave Tools Pack includes:
Manual Elliott Wave Tools
Patterns include Bull and Bear versions of: Impulse, Leading Diagonal, Ending Diagonal, ABC Correction, Triangle, 9 Wave Triangle, Double Combo, and Triple Combo
When using the manual Elliott Wave tools, you can draw or drag the wave pattern on the chart and MotiveWave will add the wave labels for you, no more drawing separate lines and typing individual text letters and numbers! You can also readjust the points/move the pattern too.
EW Components - Allows you to drag a pattern onto the chart and then 'wire up' the points where you want them. You can readjust where the pattern is at any time.
EW Tools - Simply choose the pattern you want to draw from a dropdown menu, then click on the chart where you want each of the points. As you click the points, MotiveWave will draw in the labels and lines for you. You can readjust where the pattern is at any time.
Elliott Wave Markers - A simpler version of the Elliott Wave components, which may be used to place an Elliott Wave label (just a label, no lines) on the chart. This can be useful for showing an alternative wave count on the same chart as the primary count.
Semi-Automatic Elliott Wave Tools
Auto Wave Tool - Select a section of the chart and MotiveWave will automatically fill in the best patterns within that section. You can adjust where the pattern is at any time.
Auto Analyzer - Need help getting started with a wave count? Auto Analyze will automatically plot Elliott Wave patterns over a specified range of data to a specified level of decomposition on one chart, either based on a Data Window or a Start Date.
Automatic Elliot Wave Tools
Auto Elliott Wave Study - Looking for fully automated wave counts? The Auto Elliott Wave Study will create and automatically update a wave count in real time, as new historical bars are generated.
Wave Ratio and Time Analysis
Fibonacci ratios between waves are an essential tool for forecasting price movements. MotiveWave supports all price and time ratios (examples: 2 vs 1, 4 vs 3, B vs A, C vs A+B, X vs W). Multiple ratios can be displayed at the same time and conveniently accessed using keyboard shortcuts.
Decompose Waves
MotiveWave allows you to easily decompose wave formations to multiple levels on all of our Elliott Wave tools
Depending on the Elliott Wave tool you're using, you can tell MotiveWave to automatically decompose to a specific number of levels, to decompose to all possible levels, or MotiveWave will also highlight the possible patterns available to use to decompose a specific pattern you're looking at, if you want to choose the decompose pattern yourself.
Advanced Elliott Wave Pack
The Advanced Elliott Wave Pack is only available in the Ultimate Edition.
It includes:
Elliott Wave Trading Strategies - Automate your entries and exits using the built-in Elliott Wave trading strategies. Entry orders are automatically created to scale in based on wave ratios. Stop orders are placed at wave invalidation points and optionally trail as the market moves in your favor. Exit orders are created for you based on wave ratios:
Impulse Wave 2
Impulse Wave 4
Corrective Wave B
Elliott Wave Scanner (pattern recognition tool) - Allows you to search for specific Elliott Wave Patterns across multiple symbols/instruments based on options you choose. All wave counts can be moved or adjusted after being placed on the chart and can be decomposed to as many levels as you want.

Can MotiveWave be used on multiple computers?
MotiveWave can be installed on multiple computers (Windows, macOS and Linux), but a user can only use MotiveWave on one computer at a time with one license. You need to shut MotiveWave down properly on one computer before starting MotiveWave up on another computer.
If you need to run MotiveWave on multiple computers at the same time, you would need multiple licenses.
A license cannot be shared with, transferred, sold, etc. to anyone else. We reserve the right to terminate the license if this condition is violated.
Do you continue to add new features and improve on the platform?
Absolutely! We typically push out new features and enhancements every 1-2 weeks. You can view our Release Notes on our Download page, which includes a record of all of our latest features and enhancements.
More importantly, we want your feedback. If you have a feature you would like added to the software, please contact our Support Team and we will add it to our feature request list. We are constantly adding new features based on demand from our existing users.
Are updates to the software free?
If you have a Lease License, as long as you are on an active lease, you have access to the latest version of the software.
If you have a Purchased License, it includes 1 year of free updates and support. After that first year, if you would like to continue to have access to the updates we release for the software and access to our Support Team, you can purchase the optional Additional 1 Year of Updates and Support for your edition.
If you are on the Community edition, you have access to the latest version, but support for the Community edition is only available through the MotiveWave forum.
What do I get for renewing my support and updates on my Purchased License?
Renewing your updates and support on your Purchased License provides an additional year of support and software updates. This provides peace of mind knowing you can turn to us for MotiveWave-related support and assistance.
You'll also continue receiving software updates to ensure you have access to the latest and greatest new features and enhancements!
The Additional 1 Year of Updates and Support gives you access to our Support Team and all updates we release for 1 year from the date of purchase. If you still have time left on your support life, the new time will be added on to your existing support life, so you don't lose any time.
What happens if I don't renew my support and updates on my Purchased License?
We only support and make changes to the latest version of the software.
If you choose not to renew the updates and support on your Purchased License, you can continue to use the MotiveWave version that was available as of the date your support and updates expired (See Help>About, in the software for your expiry date). You would no longer have access to our Support Team for help, and you would not have access to any updates that we release for the software.
You can always purchase the optional Additional 1 Year of Updates at any time to get instant access to the latest version and you do not need to pay for any 'missing back years'.
Is there a live demo of the platform, so we can see MotiveWave in action?
There is so much functionality in MotiveWave that we can't possibly show it all in one demo. But, you can see Product Demos of the features that we have recently added, as well as a short Intro Demo. You can watch those demos here.
We do have a Video Library, where we are adding 2 new videos every week highlighting specific tools, functionality, overviews, how-to's, and more ... with plenty more videos in the works!
How does the free trial work?
MotiveWave offers a 14-Day Risk Free trial. We only ask for your name and email address. You do not provide any credit card information for the free trial.
The 14-Day free trial starts when you enter your name and email address on our website, not when you download and install the software, so please make sure you are ready to begin the trial when you sign up.
The free trial is normally of our Ultimate Edition, which includes all of our features. If you would like to try a different edition during your 14 day trial, simply email Sales (after you've created your free trial profile) and they can switch you to the edition of your choice.
At the end of the 14 days, your license key will automatically switch to the free Community edition. If you'd like one of the other editions, you can purchase it directly through our website. When you purchase, your license key from your trial is automatically updated, so you don't lose anything you did on the trial.
If you have a question about how to use the software or are experiencing an issue, please contact our Support Team. This support is only available on the trial and paid editions (not the free Community edition).
If you have a feature request, you can contact our Support Team directly (paid and trial users only) or post it in our User Forum's Suggestions and Feedback section.
Can I cancel my lease at any time?
If you have purchased an auto-renewing lease, you can cancel the auto-renew subscription at any time and it will not auto-renew after the current paid lease period. Simply email Sales to let them know you wish to cancel. Make sure you email a few days before your lease auto-renews, so that there is time to cancel the lease before the auto-renewal goes through.
If you've purchased the 6 month lease, it does not auto-renew and will simply expire at the end of the 6 month period.
There are no refunds for any remaining time left on your lease. Your current lease will simply expire at the end of the current paid lease period.
Can I upgrade my edition at any time?
If you are on a Lease and want to upgrade to the Purchased License, we can put up to a maximum of 6 months' worth of lease payments (minus any discounts or taxes) towards an upgrade to the Purchased License of the edition you leased, or towards a higher edition. You would only need to pay the remaining difference. Contact Sales when you are ready to upgrade to the Purchased License and they will let you know your specific cost to upgrade and they will create the upgrade for you.
If you bought a lower edition Purchased License and want to upgrade to a higher edition Purchased License, we will put the cost of your lower edition (minus any discounts or taxes) towards the upgrade to the higher edition. You would only need to pay the remaining difference. You do need to have active support and updates on your Purchased License in order to upgrade. Contact Sales when you are ready to upgrade to the Purchased License and they will let you know your specific cost to upgrade and they will create the upgrade for you.
MotiveWave Software offers a 14-day free trial with full access to all features so that you have time to review and test out the software in its entirety before you purchase. Therefore, all sales are final and no refunds are available after purchase.
If, for a specific reason, you feel you have an extenuating circumstance that requires a refund, you may contact Sales with your reason(s) for requesting a refund and we will review your individual case. Refund exceptions are determined at the sole discretion of MotiveWave Software. If a refund is given, a 5% admin fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

Upon payment, the license key for your profile will be immediately updated and you will have access to your purchase. You will also receive a purchase receipt via email. You do not need to re-install the software after your free trial. If you need the latest available version of the software, you can download MotiveWave from our website.
A license may be installed and used on more than one computer system, as long as it is not used on more than one computer system at the same time. We reserve the right to terminate your license if this condition is violated.
If you require multiple licenses, or would like to provide MotiveWave to your customers or employees, please contact Sales to discuss volume discount pricing or white label and customization options.

Updates and Support:
The Purchased License includes 1 year of updates and support. At the end of your first year, after buying the Purchased License, you can stay on the version available at that time, use it indefinitely, and not pay anything else. You will not have access to any further software updates or support.
After buying a Purchased License, at any time within your first year or any time thereafter, you can purchase an optional Additional 1 Year of Updates and Support. This gives you access to our Support Team and all software updates released for the software for one year from the date you buy them for your Purchased Edition. If you purchase before your included 1st year of updates and support has ended, the additional time will be added on to your support life (you will not lose any time). If you wait for a period of time and then purchase an Additional 1 Year of Updates and Support, for example if you wait 2 years, you do not need to pay for any 'back years' of missed support.
Auto-Renewing Leases:
Please see our Refund and Cancellation policies for information on our Auto-Renewing Subscriptions.
Upgrades:
If you would like to upgrade from a Lease to a Purchased License, or from a lower edition Purchased License to a higher edition Purchased License, please see our Upgrade Policy for full details.
